CRA Strike + Your Taxes

Categories: Tax Clinics

"free tax filing" in a green box

It’s not too late to file your taxes through the Learning Centre!

The CRA is currently on strike. Our CVITP Tax Clinics at PELC are continuing to operate and we can still file taxes through E-File and generate paper returns. We will continue to support clients with tax filing and reaching out to government resources. We may have limited access to our CRA support line and/or there could be very long wait times to receive support over the phone.

Unfortunately, the CRA has not extended the tax filing deadline, which is May 1st, 2023. So, it is still important to file your taxes by the deadline, especially if you owe money or think you might owe money and to ensure there isn’t a delay in receiving benefits like the GST & CCB starting in July.

During the CRA strike:

  • Online services will still be available. You will still be able to access your CRA My Account
  • Certain services may be delayed or unavailable, there may be increased wait times for phone calls or support through CRA call centres
  • There may be delays in processing tax returns and adjustments, particularly those filed by paper
  • The issuing of tax refund payments could be impacted and there may be delays in receiving your tax refund

Also recently the CRA experienced a glitch in their system, resulting in some taxpayers not receiving their full GST, Trillium or Climate Action Incentive payments. If you have been affected, we do suggest that you contact the CRA for support on this issue. For more information:
